Condolence From: Howard C Pierce
Condolence: Dianne family and friends our most sincerest condolences. We have all been saddened learning of Sammy Best passing.
I knew Sammy off and on over the past 57 years most recently with The Canadian Guards Regiment Association. However, in Fort York Germany we had the pleasure of patrolling the local Gasthof's in and around Soest. Wherever we ventured, we were greeted with respect as Sammy was well known, he had a host of friends and acquaintances. Like Gen, Douglas has alluded to we did not always follow the regimental doctrine and could be found occasionally with the Duty Sgt and Officer sometimes numbering in the twenties marching up and down the crushed stone in Fort York, nothing criminal, just a few lads getting caught having fun during our down time!
Sammy was well liked, he was the lovable mascot with a smile, and time for everyone, a true friend. A proud Guardsman forever. RIP good buddy.

Condolence From: Ian Douglas
Condolence: Condolences to Sammy's immediate family and to all members of the Guards Family who knew him, and who did not know Sammy from the days of our youth in Germany. As a young officer who was always in trouble, and therefore picquet officer, I often had encounters with Sammy and his group of dynamic young guardsmen who kept life exciting, mischevious and happy in Fort York. Sammy never seemed to grow old, but always had that youthful sense of humour enjoyed by us all. I remember that last encounter in the Petawawa Legion, only last year, that made me feel youthful again. RIP young fella.
